Weather and terrain
The four weathers, the four terrains, Trick Room and Gravity, and how long each lasts.
In short
- Weather is set by a move or by an ability on switch-in, and lasts five turns, eight with the matching rock.
- Sun and rain change Fire and Water damage by half. Sandstorm chips. Snow hardens Ice types.
- Terrain lasts five turns, eight with Terrain Extender, and only reaches grounded Pokemon.
- Trick Room and Gravity are field effects with their own counters.
Weather
| Weather | Set by | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | Sunny Day, Drought | Fire moves ×1.5, Water moves ×0.5; Solar Beam fires at once; Thunder and Hurricane drop to 50% accuracy; Leaf Guard and Chlorophyll activate |
| Rain | Rain Dance, Drizzle | Water moves ×1.5, Fire moves ×0.5; Thunder and Hurricane never miss; Swift Swim and Dry Skin activate |
| Sandstorm | Sandstorm, Sand Stream | every Pokemon not Rock, Ground or Steel loses 1⁄16 each turn; Rock types get ×1.5 Special Defence; Sand Veil and Sand Rush activate |
| Snow | Snow, Snow Warning | Ice types get ×1.5 Defence; Blizzard never misses; Snow Cloak and Slush Rush activate |

Five turns from the move or the switch-in, eight when the setter holds Heat Rock, Damp Rock, Smooth Rock or Icy Rock. New weather replaces old. Cloud Nine and Air Lock switch all of it off while the holder is on the field.
Primal Groudon's Desolate Land and Primal Kyogre's Primordial Sea are the extreme versions: Water moves do nothing at all in the first and Fire moves nothing in the second, and neither ends until its holder leaves.
Terrain
Electric, Grassy, Misty and Psychic Terrain are set by their moves or by the Surge abilities and last five turns, eight with Terrain Extender. Terrain affects only grounded Pokemon: a Flying type, a Levitate holder or an Air Balloon holder is above it, while Iron Ball, Gravity and a Flying type using Roost are on it.
What the engine does with terrain today:
- The seeds fire: Electric Seed, Grassy Seed, Misty Seed and Psychic Seed give their holder a stat boost once when they meet their terrain, whether it was just set or the holder just switched in.
- Grass Pelt gives ×1.5 Defence on Grassy Terrain. Seed Sower sets Grassy Terrain when its holder is hit.
- Terrain Pulse takes the terrain's type and doubles its power. Camouflage follows the terrain.
Trick Room and Gravity
Trick Room reverses speed order within each priority bracket for five turns, so the slowest Pokemon moves first. Using it again while it is up ends it.
Gravity lasts five turns and brings everything to the ground: Flying types and Levitate holders take Ground moves and entry hazards, and Fly, Bounce and the other airborne moves cannot be used.
Reading the field
The battle screen shows the current weather and terrain with their turns left, and the log announces when one is set, replaced or ends. Tap the weather name for the card.
