Mt. Moon

The outer face of a hollow mountain, a great wedge of pale grey rock rising abruptly out of the treeline. Its lower slopes are broken scree and boulder field, sorted by size, with tough grass rooting in the gaps. A wide arched cave mouth opens at the base, taller than it is wide, its lip smoothed by weather and its interior falling away instantly into blackness. Rusted iron rails run out of the opening and end abruptly a few metres onto the slope. Old timber props lean against the rock beside the entrance, silvered with age. The cliff above is streaked with long vertical water stains and pocked with smaller openings. Loose stones and gravel fan out below the mouth where material has been carried out and dumped. Thin cold air spills from the opening and condenses in a faint haze. The summit is lost against the sky. Nothing grows on the upper faces at all.
