Celadon Department Store

A tall open retail hall rising through a square atrium, galleries stacked around a central void. The ground floor is finished in cream marble with brass inlay, polished to a mirror along the main run. Four separate service counters stand at the cardinal points of the atrium, each faced in a different colour of lacquered panelling. Escalators of brushed steel cross the void diagonally, their balustrades clad in smoked glass. Goods are ranged on low island units and tall backlit cabinets, dense and immaculately ordered. A skylight of tinted glazing caps the atrium and drops a soft, even wash of daylight to the floor below. Cool air moves steadily from vents concealed behind the gallery edges. The scale is deliberately grand for Celadon, closer to a city terminal than to an ordinary shop.
