Greenwood
Greenwood is barely a clearing: a dozen dark timber cottages gathered round a green, with the forest standing close behind every roof. Lamplight glows in their small windows as evening comes on. A well with a long wooden sweep stands on the grass beside low benches. The oldest building is a small wooden church with a shingled tower and a deep covered porch. Above its roof, and above everything else for miles, rises a slender fire-watch tower of grey timber, its lookout cabin catching the last daylight. At its foot stretches a long, low timber building with a red door. Hollow-log beehives hang high in the trees at the village edge. Kitchen gardens lie behind wattle fences. Southward, a plain wooden gate opens into much older, darker woods. Deep forest green and weathered grey dominate, with red trim as the only accent.
