Lavender Town
A small subdued town of narrow streets and steep roofs, built on a low rise and given over entirely to memorial. Houses are built of exposed dark timber with stained plaster infill and shingled roofs pitched sharply, their windows small and deep. The streets are cobbled in rounded grey stones, uneven and worn dished in the middle. Purple and white flowers grow everywhere, in stone troughs, along the wall bases and out of the cobble joints. A tall narrow tower of pale stone dominates the skyline at the town's high point, far larger than anything around it. Lanterns of iron and frosted glass hang from brackets on the house corners, unlit in daylight. Low walls of dry stacked stone divide the small gardens. A thin mist gathers between the buildings even at midday and softens the far end of every street. The surrounding hills are dark with conifer. The palette is muted lilac, grey and deep green.
